LUMA Performs Maintenance at the Inabón Substation to Benefit More Than 5,500 Customers in Ponce

Ponce, PR – May 15, 2026 – As part of the Preventive and Corrective Substation Maintenance Plan, LUMA is carrying out a series of maintenance activities on the equipment at the Inabón Substation in the municipality of Ponce, benefiting more than 5,500 customers. Due to operational limitations in the system, customers in the area may experience an interruption in service next Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from approximately 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The work includes several transformer tests, including verification of the Load Tap Changer (LTC), an essential component that regulates the voltage customers receive, helping improve the stability and quality of service in the area. “This equipment requires defined periodic maintenance to ensure proper operation, lower risk of equipment failure, and keep the transformer within industry‑established parameters.

“These efforts are part of our plan to improve service reliability in Ponce. The work is being coordinated with the municipal entity, and we will continue implementing the necessary actions to stabilize and strengthen the electrical system for the benefit of our customers,” said Hendzon Martínez, LUMA’s Substations Director, who has more than 23 years of experience in the electrical grid.

In addition, testing and maintenance will be performed on distribution breakers, which are integral components of the system connected to the transformer. These efforts complement the company’s annual plan, through which 156 distribution breakers in substations throughout the island have undergone preventive maintenance so far, this fiscal year.

As part of the upgrades, wildlife protectors will be installed to reduce the risk of animal contact, protecting both wildlife and substation equipment. These efforts are carried out in compliance with local and federal environmental regulations to prevent contamination and protect natural resources during maintenance and repair activities.
