LUMA and PREPA Island-Wide Outage Update

“LUMA & PREPA Working to Restore Power to more than 1 million

customers during tonight”

San Juan, Puerto Rico, April 8, 2022 – LUMA and PREPA crews are continuing to work together to restore power and respond to the massive island-wide power outage. As of 8:00p.m., and through close coordination and cooperation between LUMA and PREPA teams, more than 780,000 customers have been restored.  Joint power restoration activities remain underway and will continue until all customers are fully restored.

The following statement can be attribute to LUMA President and CEO Wayne Stensby and PREPA Executive Director Josue Colon:

We know that this outage has had a significant impact on everyone across Puerto Rico. LUMA and PREPA are 100% focused on restoring all of our customers and quickly and safely as possible. By working together, we are making significant progress and our goal is to have 1 million customers restored by tonight, and to continue working nonstop until all power is restored.”

“Barring any unforeseen issues we also anticipate that the Costa Sur substation will be made available for reenergization which will enable the large generation units on the south side of the island to come back into service late Saturday. When this occurs, this will facilitate the full restoration of all customers.”
