Cayey, PR – March 2, 2026 – LUMA announces that this upcoming Wednesday, March 4, it will be carrying out planned work at the Cayey TC Substation as part of its preventive and corrective maintenance plan for substations across the island. These efforts will directly benefit more than 7,500 customers in the central region. Due to system limitations and for operational safety reasons, some customers may experience service interruptions between approximately 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
As part of proactive measures to reduce the risk of service interruptions, in recent weeks the company has carried out maintenance work on the transformer located at this substation, including mechanical, electrical, and control‑cabling tests to optimize equipment operation while following the highest industry safety standards. This work was completed without impacting customers because the electrical system allowed the loads to be redistributed without compromising the system.
This Wednesday, crews will replace a switch on the bus connected to the transformer that was identified during preliminary testing to prevent larger outages that could affect customers in the region. However, due to the current configuration of the system, some customers may experience temporary interruptions during Wednesday’s work.
“We encourage the public to take the necessary preventive measures. This work is being carried out with the goal of improving the long-term service our customers receive and to avoid unplanned outages. Likewise, we are coordinating with municipal personnel and with critical load customers in the area so they can prepare in advance and in an orderly manner ahead of the work,” said engineer Luis Maeso, regional distribution lines manager for the Caguas region, who has more than 25 years of experience in the electrical system.

Progress in the municipality of Caguas:
This past Saturday, February 28, crews completed work on the distribution bus at the Villa del Rey Substation in Caguas, replacing and upgrading two of the switches, known as “machetes,” to improve protection capacity and avoid major outages. These improvements enhance service quality for approximately 7,300 customers, including schools, hospitals, and residential communities in the area.
