LUMA CONTINUES TO FOCUS RESTORATION EFFORTS ON HARDEST HIT REGIONS OF PONCE AND MAYAGÜEZ WITH MORE THAN 780 FIELD RESOURCES DEPLOYED
San Juan, Puerto Rico, October 5, 2022 – Today, LUMA announced that, in an unprecedented and historic achievement, it has restored electric service to over 1.4 million customers, or 95% of total customers, despite over 30 inches of rain and 100-plus mile per hour winds brought by Category 1 Hurricane Fiona. LUMA teams continue to focus their restoration efforts in the hardest hit areas of Ponce and Mayagüez, with LUMA crews working to restore power and make critical repairs to damaged infrastructure.
“Our crews continue to work around the clock making critical repairs and restoring service to customers and communities who are in areas that suffered the greatest amount of damage from Hurricane Fiona and are still without power. Every day we move more crews to areas where they are needed most, specifically the southwest region of Mayagüez. All of us at LUMA are working hard for our friends, families and neighbors,” said LUMA Engineer Daniel Hernández. “LUMA will not stop until all customers across Puerto Rico have been restored.”
