PUERTO RICO’S FIRST ELECTRIC GRID

TRANSFORMATION SUPPLIER SUMMIT HOSTED BY LUMA

Hundreds of Suppliers from Across Puerto Rico and the U.S. Convened in San Juan to Hear About Opportunities to Join the Historic Transformation of the Electric System

San Juan, Puerto Rico, May 2, 2023 – LUMA today hosted hundreds of vendors, representing companies from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, as part of the first-ever Puerto Rico “Electric Grid Transformation Supplier Summit.” As part of the summit, vendors heard first-hand from LUMA and representatives of the Puerto Rican government about the historic progress being made to modernize and transform Puerto Rico’s electric transmission and distribution system. Participants were invited to join LUMA’s effort to build a more reliable, more resilient, and cleaner energy system for the future.

“LUMA has made historic progress, and even more progress is yet to come. We are excited to see so many prospective partners here with us. Today’s Supplier Summit is another profound example of the progress being made and demonstrates LUMA’s commitment to working together with a variety of suppliers to build a brighter energy future for Puerto Rico and all our 1.5 million customers,” said Dr. Shay Bahramirad, LUMA Senior Vice President, Engineering, Asset Management and Capital Programs.

During the supplier summit, LUMA representatives presented on the progress that has been made in Puerto Rico to improve the electric system, and the opportunities that exist in the coming months and years. In addition, representatives from the Puerto Rico Governor’s Office, Puerto Rico’s Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DEDC), the Public-Private Partnerships Authority (P3A) and the Central Office of Recovery, Reconstruction and Resiliency (COR3)offered presentations on hiring, manufacturing, and the exciting opportunities that exist to do business across Puerto Rico.

It is encouraging to see the interest of so many vendors and suppliers in becoming a part of the historic power grid modernization efforts that are taking place on the island,” said Fermín Fontanés, P3A Executive Director. “We look forward to the joint work of all the new partners towards the shared goal of bolstering grid resiliency and reliability across Puerto Rico, through state-of-the-art electric components and technology.”
