This initiative is part of LUMA’s community pillar focused on youth education and wellness, a way to give back to communities and contribute to Puerto Rico’s economic development
San Juan, Puerto Rico – August 26, 2025 – Reaffirming its commitment to youth education, one of its three community pillars, LUMA recently participated in Puerto Rico Aviation Day, an event organized by the National Hispanic Coalition of Federal Aviation Employees (NHCFAE) at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport.
The activity brought together professionals, students, and organizations to celebrate the aviation community, provide insights into the aviation sector, and foster connections between future and current professionals.
LUMA’s Aviation team took part in the exhibition, showcasing one of its helicopters used in essential work for the inspection, maintenance, and modernization of Puerto Rico’s electric system.
“Events like this allow us to inspire the next generation and show them how, through aviation, we also contribute to the reconstruction and transformation of Puerto Rico’s electric system,” said José Campos, LUMA’s Director of Aviation. “Our aerial work is vital to reach remote areas, assess infrastructure, and execute projects that strengthen the reliability and resilience of the power grid.”
This initiative supports LUMA’s three community pillars: economic development and recovery, energy stewardship, and youth education and wellness. This commitment was LUMA’s main motivation for participating in the event, creating the opportunity to support a new generation of children and young people in their growth and development.
For her part, Tamara Sabalier, Air Traffic Controller and NHCFAE representative in Puerto Rico, highlighted the value of this collaboration: “We deeply appreciate LUMA for joining this educational effort. Their participation in Puerto Rico Aviation Day not only enriched the students’ experience but also demonstrated how aviation can be a key tool for the development and progress of our country. It is important to expose students to the wide range of careers in aviation so they can see themselves as pilots, engineers, and other professionals in the field.”
