These works will reduce the duration of interruptions when breakdowns occur
Barceloneta, Puerto Rico – February 27, 2026 – LUMA announced that on Saturday, February 28, it will carry out a critical upgrade to the electric grid in Barceloneta that will enable the transfer of a feeder that currently does not have backup capacity. This modernization will significantly reduce the duration of interruptions when breakdowns occur in the area.
The work will be carried out between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and will include technical work to complete the link between feeders and reinforce the electrical system in the area. As part of the project, it may be necessary to interrupt the service in a controlled manner. Upon completion of the upgrades, more than 1,800 customers will directly benefit from a more resilient infrastructure.
“With this improvement, we strengthen the responsiveness of the grid in Barceloneta and continue to advance our commitment to improve service reliability. This type of project allows us to reduce the time of interruptions and provide a more stable service to thousands of customers,” said Luis Centeno, supervisor of Substations in the Arecibo region.
