LUMA SHARES HISTORIC PROGRESS MADE OVER LAST 22 MONTHS TOWARD BUILDING A BETTER ENERGY FUTURE

New Customer Video Highlights Critical Infrastructure Improvements & Actions Taken to Transform Puerto Rico’s Energy Grid

San Juan, Puerto Rico, May 4, 2023 – Today, LUMA released a new customer video, titled “Progress for Puerto Rico,” highlighting the significant progress made over the last 22 months toward building a better energy future and Puerto Rico’s next-generation electric system. In the video, LUMA documents many achievements, including clearing hazardous vegetation, replacing tens of thousands of streetlights, modernizing aging substations and connecting a record number of customers to rooftop solar. The newly released video highlights key milestones achieved by the over 3,000 men and women of LUMA as part of their mission to build a more reliable, more resilient and cleaner energy future for Puerto Rico.

“Since taking over operations, we have remained firm in our commitment to build a modern and reliable energy system. We are proud to share the great progress we’re making as we continue expanding initiatives across the island that will support a better energy future for Puerto Rico for generations to come,” said Wayne Stensby, LUMA President and Chief Executive Officer.

Among the many areas highlighted in LUMA’s “Progress for Puerto Rico” video include the following:

  • Helping to connect 54,000+ customers to rooftop solar
  • Advancing 349 reconstruction projects to FEMA… including 11 substation reconstruction projects… and installing 30,300+ streetlights
  • Clearing hazardous vegetation from 1,300+ miles of powerlines to improve reliability
