Your safety is our priority

We are working to restore service as quickly as possible in the affected municipalities. In the meantime, stay informed through our social media channels and follow our recommendations: report outages using the Mi LUMA app and, for your safety, avoid approaching downed power lines, as they may be energized.

LUMA Reaffirms Its Commitment to the Community and Strengthens Ties in Culebra Alongside Mujeres de Islas

As part of the LUMA in Your Community program, the company reaffirms its commitment to accompany, listen, and create spaces that promote sustainability, education, and social transformation.

Culebra, Puerto Rico – February 6, 2026 – As part of its commitment to communities, LUMA carried out an initiative on the island municipality of Culebra that included delivering non-perishable items to local families and hosting community conversations about priority needs and energy resilience.

This effort is part of the LUMA in Your Community program, designed to strengthen connections with communities and contribute to their social well-being. Among the items delivered were rice, grains, powdered milk, oatmeal and cereals, coffee, sugar, and products for older adults—providing essential resources to those who need them most.

This initiative aligns with LUMA’s community pillars: educating about electrical safety, promoting community resilience, driving preparedness and development, and advancing toward a sustainable energy future.

“This effort reaffirms our commitment to Puerto Rico and the communities we serve. Initiatives like this demonstrate the genuine desire of our employees to contribute, collaborate, and support community projects that generate a positive and lasting impact,” said José Pérez Vélez, LUMA’s Executive Director.

The food items were delivered to Mujeres de Islas, Inc., a community organization that promotes sustainability, education, and social transformation projects, strengthening Culebra’s identity and creating spaces for comprehensive development.

“We appreciate the contribution of LUMA employees to our community in Culebra. Mujeres de Islas delivers food to families in need at least once a month, and we maintain a community pantry accessible 24/7. Once we received the donated food, we made three home deliveries and placed the rest in the pantry. Our community immediately benefited from these items,” said Dulce María del Río-Pineda, co-founder and coordinator of Mujeres de Islas, Inc.

Through initiatives like this, LUMA reaffirms its commitment to being an active partner in communities, contributing tangibly to social well-being, resilience, and strengthening Puerto Rico’s community sector.
