LUMA QUARTERLY REPORT: PROGRESS TOWARD CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS CONTINUE ISLAND WIDE

Fiscal Year 2025 First Quarter Report details progress made in grid reliability and resiliency, customer service, clean energy, workforce training and other key areas.

San Juan, Puerto Rico, Nov. 15, 2024 – Yesterday, LUMA filed its Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) First Quarter Report with the Puerto Rico Energy Bureau (PREB), documenting the numerous actions LUMA has taken between July 1 and Sept. 30, 2024, to better serve its 1.5 million customers. The quarterly report, which is the 13th filed since taking over operations in June 2021, highlights the ongoing efforts to modernize the energy system and improve service reliability, as well as the company’s continued commitment to clean energy progress and responsive customer service.

2025 First Quarter Progress

LUMA’s FY25 First Quarter Report highlights multiple areas of progress as part of its commitment to building a modern energy system, while also prioritizing fiscal responsibility and staying within budget. Among the significant progress milestones LUMA achieved during the first quarter of FY25 include:

  • Advancing Critical Infrastructure Improvement Projects: Started construction on seven new projects including substations, streetlighting, transmission and distribution pole replacements, and vegetation clearing.
  • Increasing Grid Resiliency: Repaired or replaced 2,700 broken or failing utility poles and cleared vegetation from 390 miles of powerlines as part of LUMA’s vegetation management operations.
  • Improving Service Reliability: Installed a new breaker at the Aguirre Substation and new transformers at both the Bayamón Transmission Center and Santa Isabel Substation, improving reliability for 300,000 customers in the San Juan Metro area and 24,000 customers across the central and southern regions of the island.
  • Improving Public Safety: Installed more than 4,600 streetlights across 10 municipalities.
  • Expanding Renewable Energy: Connected 8,954 rooftop solar systems adding more than 60 megawatts of clean energy to the grid.
  • Committing to Customer Service: Served more than 650,000 customers in person at customer service centers and responded to more than 105,000 customer emails.
  • Helping Customers Save Energy: Delivered more than 2,500 energy efficiency kits to commercial customers.
  • Increasing Workforce Training: Completed 15,624 hours of on-the-job and hands-on training through the LUMA College for Technical Training.
  • Improving Emergency Response: Restored power to more than 90% of customers impacted by Tropical Storm Ernesto in less than three days.
