LUMA ON TRACK WITH 77-91% RESTORATION ESTIMATES DESPITE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE IN THE HARDEST HIT AREAS

Company announced it has restored service to 100% Level 1 critical hospitals

Friday, September 30, 2022 – LUMA is focused on restoring power to all our customers across the island – especially in the western and southern service regions of Mayagüezand Ponce where Hurricane Fiona caused significant damage to the local infrastructure and the electric grid.

“While we’ve continued to make progress, we know there are still a number of Puerto Ricans without power due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Fiona. Given the extent of damages found during our assessments following Hurricane Fiona, we anticipate that a total of more than 90% of all customers will be restored by Saturday. It is important to note that restoration is estimated to take longer in the hardest hit regions of Ponce and Mayagüez, where we are mobilizing crews and resources to support restoration efforts in those regions,” said LUMA Engineer Daniel Hernández.

LUMA, and its partners, have been working around the clock responding to the impacts of Hurricane Fiona, and in 12 days, have restored service to over 1.25 million customers, representing 85% of total customers. As of Friday 8 A.M., LUMA’s global restoration targets are within the range between 77% and 91% power restored that was announced on Sunday, September 25, 2022.

LUMA has restored over 90% of customers in the service regions of San Juan, Bayamón and Caguas. The company continues to prioritize restoration to critical lifeline facilities, like hospitals and water facilities. To date, LUMA has restored service to all 100% of Level 1 critical hospitals, and 93% of all PRASA water facilities. The company has also started to review all Level 2 and Level 3 critical facilities and infrastructure as we continue prioritizing these critical sites.

“LUMA is committed to our restoration efforts in the most affected communities, and all of Puerto Rico, and we will not stop until every single customer has been restored,” saidHernández.
