Through sign language, the Safety and Customer Service Departments delivered a session on electrical safety
LUMA employees recently gave an electrical safety talk in sign language at the Colegio San Gabriel para Sordos, located in San Juan. Over 30 children learned about safety steps to protect themselves in emergencies involving power lines, safety measures for activities near electricity, accident prevention, and other related topics.
Colegio San Gabriel, founded in 1904, is a pioneer in deaf and special education in Puerto Rico. It is a non-profit organization serving children from preschool to high school, offering a standard curriculum alongside special education programs. Among school groups, it is well-known for its student choir, which performs songs in sign language.
As part of LUMA’s commitment to inclusion, the company aims to have multiple resources available in customer service offices to assist the community through sign language by the end of 2025. Additionally, LUMA plans to extend its electrical safety talks to benefit more deaf children in specialized schools.
