LUMA HOSTS A PRESTIGIOUS EVENT FOR PROFESSIONALS IN THE ELECTRIC POWER INDUSTRY

This is the first time the conference is held in Puerto Rico

San Juan, Puerto Rico, November 9, 2023 – – This week, LUMA leaders hostedin San Juan nearly 700 C-suit, industry senior executives, Federal Government Officials, engineers, and professionals of utility and energy industry as part of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Power and Energy Society conference. This is the first time the institute has chosen the island to host an event like this one. “We are honored to be hosting this event and grateful for the support we have received from IEEE/PES leaders to transform the electric system in Puerto Rico,” said Juan Saca, Chief Executive Officer of LUMA. He also participated in panel discussions on renewable energy and challenges Latin American countries face with their electric service with CEOs and senior executives from Chile, Texas, and Dominican Republic.

During the three-day event, members of the organization from around the world participated in workshops and discussions on the impact of climate change, response to natural disasters, innovative solutions, and the industry’s best practices. “Our experience in Puerto Rico will help the entire industry and world face climate change. This is not science fiction. Thousands of construction workers, project managers, and engineers are working tirelessly in Puerto Rico,” said Dr. Shay Bahramirad, Senior Vice President of Engineering, Asset Management and Capital Programs of LUMA and IEEE/PES President-Elect in her conference opening remarks.
