The improvements benefit around 6 thousand customers in northern communities
Arecibo, PR – January 9, 2026 – The Cambalache T.C. substation now has a more robust and safer infrastructure after the successful completion of scheduled maintenance that is part of the strategic plan to optimize the electric system in the northern region. These enhancements will enable more reliable and resilient service for more than 6,000 customers, reducing risks associated with outages and extending the life of equipment.
As part of the improvements, essential equipment was replaced, animal protectors were installed, designed to prevent accidental contact with wildlife, and potential transformers (PTs) were incorporated, specialized equipment that fulfills critical measurement and protection functions in the electrical grid. With these actions, the system’s capacity to respond to the energy needs of the area and guarantee the continuity of the service is reinforced.
“This maintenance is an important step to ensure continuity of service and infrastructure security. Thanks to the coordinated effort of our teams, we were able to complete the work as planned, ensuring tangible benefits for our customers,” said Juan Nieves Bonilla, Regional Manager of Substations.
Interagency collaboration and strict compliance with safety protocols were fundamental to the success of these works, which reinforces the commitment to continue improving the electricity grid for the benefit of the community.
