LUMA AWARDS CRITICAL FEMA ARCHITECTURE & ENGINEERING (A&E) CONTRACT TO PUERTO RICO FIRM RAY-SECO PSC

The A&E Contract Marks Continued Advancement of Capital Projects Critical to Rebuilding Puerto Rico’s Electric Transmission and Distribution System

San Juan, Puerto Rico, May 19, 2022 – LUMA recently announced it has awarded an Architecture and Engineering (A&E) contract to Puerto Rico-based engineering firm, RAY-SECO PSC. The signing of the A&E contract, which took place on Wednesday, May 11, will prove vital to the planning and advancement of critical federally funded Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) projects that will help modernize the electric grid and marks a critical investment in jobs and the economy of Puerto Rico.

“This Architecture and Engineering contract underscores our continued commitment to develop and advance important federally-funded work in Puerto Rico – work that will help rebuild a fragile electric system and give our customers a world class energy grid. Truth be told, this investment reflects LUMA’s commitment to Puerto Rico, the local economy and to transforming the electric grid. Puerto Rico should be truly proud that RAY-SECO PSC, a local engineering firm, will help build the electric grid of the future with LUMA,” said LUMA President and Chief Executive Officer Wayne Stensby.

RAY-SECO PSC was selected following a rigorous competitive bidding process that outlined the firm’s capabilities and expertise andwill play a vital role in future FEMA projects since all federally funded work must first undergo a robust engineering and planning approval process with the Agency FEMA and the Puerto Rico Energy Bureau (PREB). To date, LUMA has initiated 182 projects with FEMA representing billions of dollars of new electric infrastructure investments.

“All of us at RAY-SECO PSCare proud to be a part of the transformation of Puerto Rico’s energy system and we’re excited to begin the critical work that will build a better energy future for the communities where we work and live,” said RAY-SECO PSCPresident Pedro Ray.

The A&E contract award with RAY-SECO PSC comes on the heels of LUMA’s historic announcement last Monday of the approval of the first two FEMA-funded transmission and distribution (T&D) projects that will enhance public safety by replacing thousands of streetlights across Aguada and Maunabo.  These two multimillion-dollar projects mark the start of LUMA’s Community Streetlight Initiative, which represents a more than $1 billion investment in modernizing Puerto Rico’s streetlight infrastructure.

The announcement of this contract represents LUMA’s continuing effort to advance investments and partnerships that will prove vital in helping LUMA build a more reliable, more resilient, more customer-focused and cleaner energy system for the people of Puerto Rico.
