The planned work is part of this regional effort to address voltage fluctuation complaints.
Comerío, PR – March 20, 2026 – Committed to offering a more stable, safe, and reliable electric service, LUMA has launched a high‑impact effort aimed at addressing complaints related to voltage fluctuations and open-phase conditions in several municipalities in the central region, including Aibonito, Barranquitas, Cayey, Cidra, Comerío, Corozal, Naranjito, and Orocovis.
Voltage fluctuations and open-phase conditions can cause electric service to feel weak or unstable. This project seeks to directly identify and correct conditions in the electrical system that could reduce the likelihood of voltage issues and improve the customer experience.
“This work comes from our commitment to address the needs expressed by our customers. When we identify that a voltage issue is internal — that is, coming from the customer’s system and not from the transmission and distribution system — we guide customers to contact a certified electrician. But when the situation corresponds to the transmission and distribution system, we check system conditions and perform the necessary calibrations, either at the transformer or by scheduling work at the substation,” said Luis Alicea, LUMA Metering Supervisor.
Unlike daily work performed to address individual complaints, this initiative brings together teams from multiple departments — including Customer Service, Key Accounts, Metering, Transmission and Distribution, and Safety — to carry out a coordinated operation that accelerates the response and maximizes the impact in each community.
The first effort took place on February 19 in Aibonito, where eight crews with 30 field workers were deployed, addressing nearly 100 complaints in a single day in the Llanos, San Luis, Asomantes, Algarrobos, and Pasto neighborhoods.
The second deployment took place this, Wednesday, March 18, in Comerío and involved around 25 field workers operating across the municipality. The next phase of the project is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, in the municipality of Cidra.
“Let’s remember that we are operating a system with decades of neglect and lack of maintenance, but with this initiative we are focused on continuing to listen to our customers and addressing their needs so they receive the service they deserve,” added Alicea, who has more than nine years of experience in the electrical system.
