LUMA Announces Electric Grid Improvement Work in Humacao and Yabucoa

Work will take place on Wednesday to enhance service in the southeastern region.

San Juan, Puerto Rico – February 25, 2025 – As part of its commitment to continuously improving Puerto Rico’s electrical system, LUMA will carry out planned improvement work this Wednesday, February 26, in the municipalities of Humacao and Yabucoa. This work will strengthen the region’s electrical system and benefit thousands of customers.

“As part of the maintenance and repair of power lines near the substation, we will be replacing hardware, disconnect switches, and pole insulators, which will help protect the system and minimize future outages,” explained Eng. Eric Olmeda Berríos, LUMA’s Humacao District Manager.

The work is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. and is expected to conclude at approximately 6:00 p.m.

Additionally, hazardous vegetation removal will be conducted along Highway #3 in the Candelero Arriba neighborhood and Highway #923 in the Buena Vista neighborhood, specifically along transmission line 3700, which extends from Humacao to Yabucoa, as well as distribution lines near residential areas. Vegetation removal will also take place along Highway #906 in Yabucoa, benefiting customers in the Bo. Aguacate and Bo. Guayanés communities of Humacao.

These improvements will directly benefit more than 15,000 customers in the area, though they may cause temporary service interruptions for approximately 7,900 customers in the following communities:
