Agreement benefits the most vulnerable communities served by the nonprofit organization
San Juan, Puerto Rico – August 5, 2025 – LUMA and the American Red Cross Puerto Rico Chapter today signed, for the fourth consecutive year, a collaborative agreement that reaffirms their shared commitment to community education and disaster and emergency response. This renewed partnership will allow both organizations to continue expanding their educational and response efforts in vulnerable communities across the Island.
“The renewal of this agreement with the American Red Cross underscores our unwavering commitment to Puerto Rico and emergency preparedness and response,” said Juan Saca, Chief Executive Officer of LUMA. “As the operator of Puerto Rico’s electric system, we recognize that collaboration with humanitarian organizations is essential to supporting communities before, during, and after a disaster. We are proud to continue strengthening this joint effort, in which our employees also play an active role in the Island’s recovery.”
Over the past four years, LUMA has supported the Red Cross Disaster Response Program, which provides immediate assistance to individuals affected by home fires, floods, storms, hurricanes, and other emergencies. This agreement also supports LUMA’s three community pillars: education and wellness, energy stewardship, and economic development and recovery.

The American Red Cross Puerto Rico Chapter provides disaster assistance in the form of financial support, mental health services, medical care, spiritual care, and referrals. It responds to events such as residential fires, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, landslides, and other emergencies. On average, the organization responds to 20 home fires per month in Puerto Rico.
