The visit included an educational talk on essential practices to prevent electrical accidents and protect lives
Mayagüez, PR – March 10, 2026 – As part of its commitment to social responsibility and the safety of communities, LUMA recently offered the educational talk “The 7 Steps to Electrical Safety” at the Salvation Army facilities in Mayagüez. This initiative seeks to teach essential practices to prevent electrical accidents and protect lives.
During the activity, LUMA health and safety experts explained how energy reaches homes, the effects of electrical current on the human body, how to handle electricity safely, and what to do in emergency situations with downed wires. The talk offered the audience practical tools for prevention and response to electrical risks.
In addition to the educational session, LUMA identified an immediate need within the community served by the Salvation Army and coordinated the donation of non-perishable food. This contribution, driven by volunteer employees, is part of the company’s ongoing commitment through the LUMA en tu Comunidad program, which promotes direct actions that respond to the realities of each region and contribute to social well-being.
“At LUMA we understand that our role goes beyond operating the electrical system. Listening, identifying needs, and providing concrete support is essential to strengthening the communities we serve,” said Melissa Pueyo, Key Account Director. “Our partnership with the Salvation Army reaffirms our presence in the community and our commitment to contribute where it is needed most.”
For her part, Loraine Medina, Mayor, management officer of Mayagüez highlighted: “We thank LUMA for providing an educational talk on electrical safety, a very valuable orientation for our community. In addition, we recognize the donation of non-perishable food by employees, which are essential to our programs that feed seniors and children in Mayagüez.”
