LUMA, PREPA WORK TOGETHER TO REENERGIZE GRID AND RESTORE MORE THAN HALF A MILLION CUSTOMERS FOLLOWING HURRICANE FIONA

RESTORATION UPDATE: 557,135 CUSTOMERS RESTORED AS OF 10:10 AM

San Juan, Puerto Rico, September 23, 2022 – Today, LUMA announced that as part of its ongoing Hurricane Fiona restoration efforts, more than half a million customers have been restored power as it continues to work closely with PREPA in response to the devasting impacts of the hurricane on Puerto Rico’s electric system. Over the last 24 hours, LUMA has continued conducting damage assessments, and has been focusing on connecting critical customers and maximizing the use of the available generation. LUMA continues to coordinate with PREPA and other private generation operators who are working hard to reenergize critical generation facilities and increase the amount of available generation so LUMA can restore service to more customers. As of 10:10 am Friday, following an increase in generation capacity, LUMA has restored power to 557,135customers.

“LUMA, PREPA and private generators are continuing to work together to restore Puerto Rico’s electric system following Hurricane Fiona and to bring approximately 1,000 megawatts of generation online so that we can continue to restore power to more customers every day. Over the last 24 hours, we have successfully restored service to more critical care facilities and more customers across the island. While we are still contending with significant damage resulting from Hurricane Fiona, our LUMA crews continue to make progress and will not stop until every customer in Puerto Rico has their power restored,” said Ing. Daniel Hernandez, LUMA Director, Renewable Systems Projects.
