Project will increase energy capacity and improve service reliability in the region
Fajardo, Puerto Rico – November 18, 2025 – Scheduled work will be carried out tonight on the Fajardo Substation Transformer, as part of a modernization project that seeks to restore the functionality of the system, improve the reliability of the electric service and increase the capacity to meet the current and future energy demand in the eastern region of Puerto Rico. The project will take place between 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18 and 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19.
The scope of work includes the replacement of the existing transformer with a new unit with its corresponding base, as well as the replacement of 38 kV fuse disconnect switches and their support structure. These improvements will allow a safer, more efficient and resilient operation of the electrical system in Fajardo and nearby communities.
This type of project is possible thanks to the availability of funds for the modernization of Puerto Rico’s electric grid, a critical investment to reduce the risk of interruptions, improve the capacity to respond to extreme events and guarantee a more reliable service for all sectors: residential, commercial and industrial.
These efforts are part of a broader strategy to transform the island’s electricity system, making it more robust, modern and prepared for the challenges of the future.
