KEY IMPROVEMENTS COMPLETED IN QUEBRADA NEGRITO TO STRENGTHEN THE POWER GRID

More than 50,000 customers will benefit from a more resilient and reliable network after the modernization of critical infrastructure in the San Juan region

San Juan, Puerto Rico — December 5, 2025 – LUMA successfully completed last Wednesday, December 3, 2025, a strategic project at the Quebrada Negrito Substation in Trujillo Alto, as part of ongoing efforts to modernize and strengthen Puerto Rico’s electrical system.

The work consisted of the replacement of the protection device, a recloser type fuse essential for the safe operation of the network. This improvement is part of a critical line that connects with Villa Betina, Quebrada Negrito and Juncos TC., which allows optimizing energy distribution and increasing the response capacity to unforeseen events.

Additionally, the scheduled interruption was used to perform preventive maintenance on the substation, maximizing the efficiency of the intervention and reinforcing the operational reliability of the system as a whole.

Thanks to this intervention, more than 50,000 customers will benefit from a more resilient, reliable and efficient grid, with greater stability in the electric service and a reduction in vulnerability to failures.

These works are part of a comprehensive improvement plan that seeks to transform the island’s energy infrastructure, aligned with the highest standards of safety and performance.
