Improvements to the Electric System in Hormigueros this Sunday, November 16

Hormigueros, Puerto Rico – November 14, 2025 – As part of a plan to improve electrical infrastructure, scheduled maintenance work will be carried out this Sunday, November 16, at the Acacias substation, located in the municipality of Hormigueros. These efforts are part of ongoing efforts to provide a more reliable and efficient service to customers in the region.

The work, which will run from 7:00 a.m. to approximately 7:00 p.m., will require the temporary interruption of electric service in several communities in the area. This interruption is necessary to guarantee the safety of the brigades and the effectiveness of the work.

Improvements include the modernization of key equipment within the substation, as well as the inspection and replacement of critical components that will allow for greater stability of the electrical system. It is estimated that these actions will directly benefit more than 9,000 customers, reducing the frequency of unplanned outages and improving responsiveness to atmospheric events.

“We are in coordination with the municipality of Hormigueros and with customers of critical loads to minimize the impact on their operations during the work period,” said Juan Nieves Bonilla, LUMA’s regional manager of substations.

LUMA encourages residents to take the necessary steps to prepare in advance and appreciates the community’s understanding and collaboration during this process.
