IMPORTANT UPDATE: LUMA LAUNCHES NEW “PROGRESS FOR PUERTO RICO” DASHBOARD TO INFORM CUSTOMERS ON PROGRESS BEING MADE ON KEY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES

New “Progress for Puerto Rico” Dashboard to provide detailed progress of LUMA’s work to install new streetlights, upgrade equipment, trim hazardous vegetation, and more

San Juan, Puerto Rico, August 23, 2024 – As part of a commitment to transparency, LUMA launched a new “Progress for Puerto Rico” dashboard that will provide its 1.5 million customers, as well as stakeholders, monthly updates on the dramatic scope of work being made to improve the electrical system. The dashboard, www.progresodelumapr.com/progress-for-puerto-rico, will track the current status of programs and initiatives, including the status of FEMA projects, the number of pole replacements, new streetlights installed, smart meter installations, miles of vegetation trimmed or cleared, substation upgrades, the amount of energy saved through customer-focused energy conservation programs, and more.

“Progress matters to our customers. It’s what they are demanding, and our LUMA team is working tirelessly every day to deliver. As part of this effort, our new Progress Dashboard will help keep our customers informed. It allows them, or our stakeholders, to hold us accountable on our work and the progress being made, and it will help correct the misperceptions that minimize the real progress being made. Make no mistake, our mission is to transform and modernize the electrical system, and we are determined to achieve this goal,” said Juan Saca, LUMA President and Chief Executive Officer.

Initiatives included in the Progress for Puerto Rico Dashboard include updates on all of the major FEMA-funded initiatives, as well as other areas. Among the specific areas of progress include the following:

  • Community Streetlight Initiative – Install 300,000 streetlights across all 78 municipalities to improve safety and energy efficiency.
  • Substation Equipment Improvements – Assess and carry out 60 equipment upgrades to address high voltage and improve reliability.
  • Vegetation Safety and Reliability Initiative – Clear 16,000 miles of powerlines over the next three years to minimize downed poles and reduce power outages.
  • Routine Vegetation Trimming – Trim hazardous vegetation from infrastructure in daily operations to minimize outages.
  • Smart Meter Initiative – Assess 1.5 million smart meters for future improvements to improve outage response.
  • Customer Energy Savings Programs – Helpcustomers save energy at their home or business.
  • Pole Replacement Program – Replace 100,000 utility poles to strengthen the electric system against storms.
