LUMA AND PREPA CONTINUE WORKING TOGETHER TO OVERCOME DAMAGE, STABILIZE THE SYSTEM AS THEY CONNECT MORE CRITICAL CUSTOMERS FOLLOWING HURRICANE FIONA

RESTORATION UPDATE: APPROXIMATELY 50% OR 732,324 OF CUSTOMERS RESTORED AS OF 2:35 PM

San Juan, Puerto Rico, September 24, 2022 – Today, LUMA announced that as part of its ongoing Hurricane Fiona recovery efforts, approximately 50 percent, or 732,324 of customers have had their power restored. Over the last 24 hours, LUMA has continued conducting damage assessments and critical repairs, and has been focusing on connecting critical customers, such as hospitals and other essential services. As part of our combined restoration efforts, LUMA continues to coordinate with PREPA and other private generation operators to reenergize critical generation facilities and increase the amount of available generation so LUMA can restore service to more customers.

“LUMA, PREPA and private generators are continuing to work together to restore power across Puerto Rico. While we are making significant progress, the damage sustained to the transmission, distribution and generation facilities from Hurricane Fiona continues to pose real challenges. Despite these challenges, over the last 24 hours, we continue to work hard to bring online more generation, stabilize the energy grid, conduct more repairs and prioritize our restoration efforts to more critical care facilities. We want to be very clear, we will not stop working until every customer in Puerto Rico has their power restored,” said, Daniel Hernandez, LUMA Director, Renewable Systems Projects.
