2022 HOLIDAY CAMPAIGN: LUMA PARTNERS WITH LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS TO SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITIES DURING 2022 HOLIDAY SEASON

San Juan, Puerto Rico, December 14, 2022 – Today, LUMA announced its holiday season philanthropic efforts to support Puerto Rico families and communities across the island. As part of this holiday season, LUMA will be partnering with local organizations and supporting its LUMA family to engage with their communities, as well as offering volunteer and donation opportunities that will directly assist local Puerto Rican communities.

“The holiday and Christmas season is all about giving back and supporting one another. The more than 3,000 women and men of LUMA are honored to do all they can to help their communities, and all proudly embrace the spirit of the season. Through our internal giving program, Somos LUCES, we are organizing volunteer opportunities and donation drives that our co-workers can support over the coming weeks of the holiday season so that we can help those in need and be there for the communities we are so proud to serve every day,” said LUMA President and Chief Executive Officer Wayne Stensby.

Somos LUCES

The LUMA Committed with Employees Program (Somos LUCES) enables LUMA co-workers to make donations to participating non-profit organizations through voluntary deductions of up to 3% a year on their paycheck. LUMA’s parent companies match all donations made through Somos LUCES and supports the participating organizations of the co-worker’s choice. This holiday season, Somos LUCES is supporting a variety of local organizations, including Hogar Cuna San Cristobal, Make-A-Wish Foundation and the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Foundation through the following activities:

  • Make-A-Wish Foundation Puerto Rico: LUMA co-workers are partnering with Make-A-Wish Foundation Puerto Rico by collecting letters from children across Puerto Rico addressed to Santa. For every letter coordinated through LUMA, Macy’s will donate $2 to Make-A-Wish. The postcards were delivered on Friday, December 9, at Macy’s in Plaza Las Américas.
  • Hogar Cuna San Cristobal: LUMA co-workers across the island are organizing toy drives to benefit Hogar Cuna San Cristóbal, an organization that temporarily shelters children removed from their homes for abuse or neglect.  
  • CAP Foundation: LUMA is also coordinating donations and toy drives for pediatric cancer patients at the Dr. Antonio Ortiz University Pediatric Hospital in Centro Medico through the company’s partnership with the CAP Foundation, a local non-profit whose mission is to ensure that all pediatric cancer patients, regardless their income, can enjoy access to the best quality care in Puerto Rico.

Supporting Customers in Need

During this special time of year, LUMA is also determined to support any customer impacted by rising generation fuel costs. While LUMA does not generate energy, we are committed to helping our customers facing higher energy costs. LUMA has taken efforts to support customers impacted by these rising generation fuel costs through:

  • Financial Assistance: LUMA has distributed $75.5 million, through more than 1.5 million payments, in critical financial assistance to support those in need.
  • Subsidized Rates: LUMA offers special discounted electric rates to those who qualify, such as customers over the age of 65, full-time college students, individuals that depend on life-saving medical equipment and disabled customers.
