This Request for Proposal (RFP) has been issued on behalf of LUMA, which plans to design and build two integrated island-based microgrid systems for Vieques and Culebra as part of 406 Hazard Mitigation measures. These microgrids will provide power to critical infrastructure in the event of damage to the main power source. They can operate independently during outages and will utilize a combination of battery energy storage systems and solar photovoltaic systems, reducing reliance on diesel generators. The project aims to improve reliability, power quality, and resilience, thereby minimizing the risk of outages during disasters and enhancing the overall resilience of the power systems for these islands.
