Thank You!

To our friends, families and neighbors,

On behalf of our family at LUMA, we would like to wish you and your loved ones a Happy Thanksgiving! Since June 1, 2021, we have been privileged to serve the 3.2 million people of Puerto Rico and would like to sincerely thank you all for the opportunity and privilege to serve you.

While we know that there is a lot of work to be done to build the next generation electric grid that Puerto Ricans expect and deserve, we are truly committed to this mission. No matter what challenges may come next, we want you to know that we are determined to build a cleaner, safer and more reliable energy system that you can be proud of.

In less than six months, we’ve already taken a series of actions to repair, rebuild and strengthen the electrical system. Actions that were possible because of the hard work of our team of over 3,000-strong that include nearly 1,000 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) union members. These actions include:

  • Working hard to reduce outage frequency and duration across the system by making substantial infrastructure improvements that include replacing over 1,700 poles and restoring three substations, one of which hadn’t been operational since 2010.
  • Improving the resiliency of our electric system by replacing equipment that had not been operational since Hurricane Maria, including five critical remote terminal units, one of which hadn’t been operational for over five years.
  • Supporting the growth of renewable energy by connecting more than 10,000 new customers and 42 megawatts to solar power.
  • Improving customer service by reopening all 25 Customer Service Centers, reducing call answer times, and launching new customer channels of communication, including a new website, the Mi LUMA app and social media channels.
  • Clearing and properly disposing of almost 1 million pounds of trash, waste and debris left behind at various worksites across Puerto Rico.
  • Partnering with several agencies, including Departamento de La Familia and Vivienda, to ensure customers have access to and are educated on available financial relief programs.
  • Continuing to recruit and invest in employees that are trained to industry standards and that put safety first.

While we have made progress, we know there is much more work to do. Our sincere commitment to you is that we will work as hard as possible to make real and lasting improvements to the energy system you and your family depend on each and every day.
