The talk at Honeywell Aguadilla brought together more than 30 participants and addressed electrical fundamentals, emergency measures and key practices to reduce risks and consumption at home
Aguadilla, PR – August 24, 2026 – As part of its efforts to promote electrical safety and responsible energy use in the western region, LUMA today offered an educational talk during Honeywell Aguadilla’s Safety Week. The activity was attended by more than 30 in-person and virtual employees from the aerospace and defense industry, who received specialized training on how to identify electrical hazards and adopt energy efficiency practices in their homes.
The session began with an explanation of the essential concepts of electricity—voltage, current, and resistance—and how these relate to dangerous situations in the workplace and at home. Based on these fundamentals, LUMA instructors presented the 7 Steps to Electrical Safety, including maintaining a minimum distance of 35 feet from energized lines, locating lines before working, knowing the limits of approach according to voltage, avoiding staying near operating equipment, applying the “jump and drag” technique in emergencies and calling before digging. The audience received practical examples of how to apply these measures to avoid accidents and respond appropriately during emergency situations.
The second part of the talk focused on energy efficiency practices in the home, highlighting how the use of more efficient equipment can significantly reduce monthly electricity consumption. Guidance was offered on selecting high-efficiency air conditioners, ENERGY STAR® appliances, solar heaters, and other equipment that reduces energy consumption. Participants also received information about LUMA’s Residential Rebate Program, which provides incentives to facilitate the acquisition of efficient equipment.
“These types of initiatives are essential to promote a culture of prevention and education throughout the island,” said José Costa, Corporate Performance Manager for Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) at LUMA. “By offering these talks across different industries, we equip more people with the knowledge needed to respond to electrical emergencies.”
