The work, scheduled for this Friday, will require a temporary service interruption while a portable substation is installed.
Juana Díaz, PR – August 5, 2026 – In its commitment to keeping customers informed and providing adequate time to prepare, this Friday, August 7, LUMA will carry out high‑impact work at the urban area substation in Juana Díaz, benefiting more than 6,000 customers in this municipality. Due to existing limitations in the electric system, customers may experience a service interruption between approximately 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
“As part of the project, this Friday we will install a portable substation that will allow us to maintain service to customers while we complete critical improvements over the next month. Our team will use that time to perform specialized maintenance on the main transformer, replace components, and install protective equipment that will help extend the life of this infrastructure and improve its performance,” explained Miguel Pagán, West Region Substation Maintenance Supervisor, who emphasized that this transformer has been in operation for more than 30 years, making these tasks essential to ensure its reliability.
The most important component of this substation is the main transformer, so crews will be correcting an existing oil leak and processing the insulation oil to improve its electrical properties. In addition, wildlife protectors will be installed on this equipment, as well as on the lightning arresters and disconnect switches connected to the substation.
Additional maintenance will be performed on the Load Tap Changer (LTC), the equipment responsible for calibrating the voltage customers receive. In recent months, LUMA also completed proactive maintenance on the breakers connected to this substation, where wildlife protectors were installed.

The public traveling near this substation is urged to follow safety measures and proceed with caution while the work is being carried out, in order to protect both their own safety and that of the employees working to improve electric service.
